YES-Kids Gallery Exhibit is a Smash Hit!

The YES-Kids first Gallery Showing was a huge hit, with hundreds of viewers, at the downtown FAB, ArtSpace Gallery. The Kids N Klay exhibit was displayed beautifully and was a focus of interest and delight with visitors. Much attention was given to Karen's Copy Cat display on the stairway wall and on a pedestal.

From 5:00 pm until after 8:30 pm, the gallery was filled with art lovers, family and friends of the artists. Although sales of their art was not the original intention, several YES artists were persuaded to part with some pieces. Offers have been made for the purchase of other pieces and sales are pending. A portion of those proceeds will go to Fine Arts Blount to benefit children's art programs.
Refreshments of strawberries, grapes, cheeses, cookies, cupcakes, white grape juice and ginger ale were served and much appreciated.

Youthful Expressions Studio exposes their students to the traditional mediums during each 12-week session of classes. Charcoal, Pastels, Watercolor, Acrylics, Colored Pencil and beginning Sculpture projects are done, usually for two weeks each.

The YES-Kids will have another showing at the Blount County Library in June. It will consist of their sculptures and other 3D works. In August, also at the BCL, the Youthful Expressions Studio students will show their works in Charcoal, Pastels, Watercolors, Acrylics and Colored Pencil.

It's not too late to see the FABulous Kids Art Show in the upstairs gallery at ArtSpace. Just visit during gallery hours. See www.fineartsblount.com for hours. You can also visit during YEStudio's class times on Tuesday at 3:15-5:30 and Wednesday at 4:30-5:30.

Now is the time to sign up for the YEStudio Summer Camps. The first camp,
'A Summer Safari', will be held on June 7th -11th..
A second camp, 'A Day at the Beach', will be held the week of June 14th - 18th. Go to
www.yestudio.org, call Cindy at 607-4473, or email cindy@yestudio.org

Two more camps will be held in July at ArtSpace. Merita Steward and Cindy McDannel will be conducting 'Let's Make a Book'. This is an opportunity for kids to write and illustrate their own book! Merita will conduct the writing portion and Cindy will teach the illustrating of their books. The dates and ages for 'Let's Make a Book' are: July 12-16, for grades 6th-8th and July 26-30 for grades 3rd- 5th.

The Spring Session still has some fun projects ahead. The YES-Kids are working on their Faux Mexican Bark Paintings. This is a lesson in Acrylics and a way that art is sometimes done in Mexico. They will be finishing those soon, so look for pictures!

In August we will begin another 12-week session at YEStudio. Check back for dates at www.yestudio.org. Wow! So much is going on! Our students are loaded with talent and that talent is being captured and nurtured by exposure to many mediums.

Last night was the YES-Kids first experience with showing their work in a gallery. The delight on their faces was a glorious sight to see! :-)
