Wednesday YES-Kids begin their Zebra in Charcoal

The Wednesday, 4:30 class of Youthful Expressions Studio students got a good start on their Charcoal project, which is Zebras. They started with a watercolor wash for background, then proceeded to the sketching of their Zebras. Some of the students have not worked with charcoal before and they are excited about it. Charcoal tends to be a messy medium, but as a rule, kids don't mind the mess. They learned about the different types of charcoal; willow, compressed and charcoal pencils, as well as how to work with kneaded erasers. It is always fun to 'warm up' the kneaded erasers.

These 'in progress' pictures show the students intently working on their first (for some), project. Close-ups of the students and their finished projects will be posted here and on www.yestudio.org soon. Be sure to check back often and feel free to follow so you can comment and encourage them on their progress. They'll appreciate it!

  1. How awesome! These children are learning so much and having a lot of fun too.

It has been proven that art boosts confidence and when kids have confidence, it helps them in other parts of life. Schoolwork and social skills are improved.

Keep up the good work, YES-Kids!
